Bryan Johnson’s Haircare Routine

My hair is better at 48 than 28.

I started to lose my hair and go gray in my late 20s. Now, in my late 40s, I've got a full head of hair and ~70% of my gray is gone.

Here's how I did it.†

Bryan Johnson's haircare protocol

#1. Nutrition

Your body needs good food to make good hair.

In general, eat whole foods and avoid processed junk and added sugar.

For hair in particular, get enough:

  • protein
  • omega-3
  • vitamins and minerals, including iron, selenium, biotin, zinc, and vitamins C, D, and E

I get these nutrients from fruits, vegetables, lentils, nuts, seeds, Longevity Mix, and Essential Capsules. I also supplement to get high-potency omega-3 and broad-spectrum collagen peptides.

If you eat meat, opt for chicken, turkey, and fatty fish like salmon or mackerel.

#2. Blueprint Peptide Shampoo and Serum

I use the Blueprint haircare stack daily.

Here's the protocol:

  • step 1: After using regular shampoo, I apply 1–2 pumps of Peptide Shampoo directly to my scalp. Leave for 2 min and rinse out.
  • step 2: I apply Peptide Hair Serum and massage it into my scalp with a silicone scrubber for 1–2 min to stimulate blood flow.

#3. Blueprint 302 Laser Cap

LLLT (low-level laser therapy) may help support hair regrowth for pattern hair loss in as little as 16 weeks. The technology can deliver around 2.5x more on-target intensity compared to LEDs to stimulate hair follicles.

I wear the 302 Laser Cap for 6 min a day. It has a wireless battery pack so I can go about my morning routine while wearing it.

#4. Oral minoxidil

Oral minoxidil is commonly used to support hair regrowth.

I started with 2.5 mg and evaluated for side effects. I now take 3.75 mg a day.

You can access oral minoxidil through Immortals Medicine.*

#5. Topical minoxidil

I apply 1 mL topical 5% minoxidil to my scalp each night.

When should you start a hair protocol?

Start before you can see thinning. By age 20, about 20% of men already have some visible hair loss, and many people lose up to 50% of their hair before they start to notice it.

By age 50, up to 40% of women will have noticeable hair loss as well.

Consider starting a hair health protocol as a proactive approach before you can visibly detect thinning.

The basics go a long way:

  • good nutrition
  • science-backed haircare protocols
  • starting early with treatments
