Microplastics
This is the first microplastics test to make it to market because common blood analysis methods like Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) use equipment and materials coated in plastics during storage and processing. Our lab partner developed a plastic-free Fluorescent Microscopy (FM) method using only glass, metal, or paper to avoid contamination.
The quantitative and qualitative efficacy of this test has been independently peer-reviewed by a CLIA/COLA-certified lab.
Because the push lancets are made of plastic and contaminate the sample (a good reminder that plastics are everywhere). The metal lancet allows for a plastic free sample collection.
DO NOT use a plastic lancet found in other tests as this will contaminate your results.
Blueprint has partnered with a third party laboratory with facilities in both Michigan and the Netherlands to develop the world’s first microplastics test. The lab is specially built to process the microplastic samples, itself being plastic free. It’s the only micro-plastics free lab in the world that we are aware of.
The lab is independently subject to privacy and security obligations. Blood samples are destroyed by the lab 30 days after processing. The benchmarking data we share with users is aggregated and doesn’t identify any individuals. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is securely controlled.
The Blueprint Microplastic test provides information only about microplastics in your blood, not about deposits in the organs and tissues. To get that information, a biopsy of those organs would need to be conducted, which is an invasive procedure.
You can email support@bryanjohnson.com for additional questions and feedback.
You can also schedule a live collection support request with one of our specialists who can give you tips on how to prick yourself, as well as answer any questions you have about data. You can find the scheduling link on the registration site at https://calendly.com/labs-blueprint/15min
While the science is still emerging, it is recommended to re-test your microplastics load every 3 months, especially if you are making lifestyle changes to lower your load.
- Avoid plastic bottles: Avoid drinking water from plastic bottles.
- Water filtration: Install a reverse osmosis water filter in your home with remineralization to remove microplastics and improve water quality. My water system details.
- Storage: Use non-plastic food storage containers like glass, stainless steel, or ceramic.
- Takeaway: Bring your own reusable stainless steel mug for takeaway beverages.
- Canned soup: Avoid canned soups. A randomized cross-over controlled trial found that BPA concentration in urine went up by 20 folds to 20.8ug/L after a week of consuming canned soup as opposed to 1.1ug/mL for fresh soup.
- Cutting boards: Use wooden cutting boards to avoid microplastic shedding.
- Safety: Avoid heating food in plastic containers to prevent chemical leaching.
- Cookware: Use cast iron or stainless steel cookware instead of non-stick pans.
- Utensils: Use wooden, metal, or silicone cooking tools instead of plastic.
- Clothing: Choose natural fiber clothing and home textiles like cotton, bamboo, linen, hemp, wool, or silk to avoid microfibers.
- Detergents: Use plastic-free laundry and dishwashing detergents to prevent microplastic contamination.
- Cleaning: Vacuum with a HEPA filter to trap microplastics in dust; sealed windows and air purifiers can help in polluted areas.
Receipts: Avoid handling thermal paper receipts; opt for digital receipts when possible.
Ezra MRI
The Ezra Blueprint scan adds several advanced assessments for body composition, MS, dementia, brain age, aneurysms, coronary plaque.
The Ezra Blueprint is offered at select locations. Currently, it is offered at the Beverly Hills, Orange County, and Miami facilities. New Jersey, New York, and Austin are coming soon.
The 120-minute full-body MRI is divided into two 60-minute appointments at the location of your choice.
MRI's and CT scans are good as different types of imagery. MRI scans better evaluate the flow of bodily fluids, provide better soft-tissue contrast, and can image tissue near bones. CT scans are preferred for identifying specific cancers, such as lung cancer. The Ezra Blueprint uses both to provide the most comprehensive full body screening.
Once your detailed digital report is ready, your Ezra clinician will walk you through your results, with actionable next steps.
Three reasons: cost, quality, and ease.
1. Ezra members pay a lower price. We buy MRI scanning slots in bulk from our imaging partners, who give us preferential rates — and pass those savings on to you.
2. Your scan is analyzed by radiologists who are carefully vetted and routinely review Ezra Scans.
3. We make it easy and comprehensive. Scheduling imagery with Ezra doesn't require a medical referral and your Ezra Medical Provider will walk you through all of your results and next steps.
It is recommended to do these MRIs once a year.
Speed of Aging
Epigenetics refers to changes in gene activity that do not alter the DNA sequence but can affect gene expression. These changes are influenced by various factors such as lifestyle, environment, and age. Understanding epigenetics allows us to see how external factors can impact our genetic code and overall health.
A biological age test measures the age of your cells and tissues, which can differ from your chronological age. It provides insights into your overall health and can help predict the risk of age-related diseases. By tracking your biological age, you can see how lifestyle changes affect your health over time.
Each test kit comes with detailed instructions and all the necessary tools to collect a sample at home. You will use a small lancet to prick your finger and collect a few drops of blood on a provided blood spot card. The process is simple and minimally invasive.
After collecting your sample, use the prepaid shipping label included in your kit to send it back to our lab. Ensure the sample is properly sealed and packaged as per the instructions.
Your results will be ready within 2-3 weeks from the time our lab receives your sample. You will receive an email notification when your results are available, and you can access them through our secure online portal.
Your report will include detailed information on your biological age, pace of aging, and insights into specific health markers. It will also provide personalized recommendations for lifestyle changes to improve your health and potentially reduce your biological age.
Our tests are developed in collaboration with leading academic institutions and are based on cutting-edge research. We measure over 1,000,000 CpG locations on your DNA to provide highly accurate and reliable results.
Yes, we recommend testing every three months to monitor how lifestyle changes affect your biological age. This allows you to see the impact of your health interventions and make adjustments as needed.
Blueprint Speed of Aging Tests are developed using the latest generation of aging algorithms and measure a comprehensive range of biomarkers. Our tests are backed by extensive research and collaborations with top academic institutions, providing highly accurate and actionable insights.
Yes, our laboratory services are CLIA certified and HIPAA compliant, ensuring the highest standards of data security and patient confidentiality.
Blueprint Speed of Aging Test stands out by offering cutting-edge epigenetic testing that goes beyond traditional health assessments. It analyzes biological age, cellular health, and how factors like lifestyle, environment, and nutrition are impacting your body at a genetic level. This approach provides a comprehensive view of your current health, offering actionable insights into how you can slow the aging process and improve organ function, immune health, and overall longevity. Unlike basic genetic tests, the Blueprint Speed of Aging Test offers real-time data on how your body is aging and adapting, empowering you to make informed decisions for better long-term health.
Blueprint has partnered with TruDiagnostic to create our Speed of Aging Test. We share the two main reports: DunedinPace of aging and Symphony Age, which quantifies the age of 11 organ systems. Purchasing the test from Blueprint allows you to integrate the data directly into the Don’t Die App, where we will build deeper analysis across different biomarkers as well as your wearable data, if you choose to integrate it.
Prioritize good sleep, regular exercise, and a diet free of processed foods. Additionally, managing stress, staying hydrated, and incorporating nutrient-dense, whole foods can support healthy aging and slow down the aging process.
23andMe focuses on genetic testing, providing insights into your ancestry, health risks, and personal traits by analyzing your DNA. TruDiagnostics, on the other hand, looks at your biological age and overall health by measuring how your environment, lifestyle, and habits affect your body at the cellular level. While 23andMe is more about your genetic makeup, TruDiagnostics is about your current health and aging process.
The Blueprint Speed of Aging Test measures organ systems by analyzing specific biomarkers found in your blood that reflect how different systems in your body are functioning. By using advanced epigenetic testing, it looks at how environmental factors, lifestyle, and aging are impacting your organs on a cellular level. This allows for insights into the health of key systems like cardiovascular, immune, and metabolic systems, providing a comprehensive overview of your overall health.
It is recommended to re-test DNA methylation every 3 months to track changes in your epigenetic age.
Blood Draws
Blueprint has partnered with Labcorp to provide over 3500 testing locations in the USA. You can search for labs near you here.
We do not accept insurance, however we will soon be FSA/HSA eligible, like other products in our store. We can provide an itemized receipt for you to submit for reimbursement.
Our basic panel tests for 60+ biomarkers and our advanced panel tests for 110+ biomarkers. You can see the list of biomarkers on the test-specific pages.
We recommend testing every 6-12 months to see how your biomarkers are changing. We recommend every 3 months if you are making more drastic lifestyle changes or doing active interventions.
It is strongly recommended that you fast for 12 hours before the test.
1. Fast for at least 12 hours but not more than 16 hours (water only)
- Otherwise, triglyceride, cholesterol, and glucose measurements can be inaccurate
2. Do not take any supplements on the morning of the test
3. Review what medications you are taking on the morning of the test whether they can confound any results - ask your physicians
4. Avoid vigorous exercise (heart rate above 150 bpm for more than 30 minutes) for 3 days (72 hours) before the blood test time if you want highly accurate ALT, AST, and CPK tests
5. Avoid creatine supplements for seven days. if testing creatinine and want more accurate results.
- This is because it raises creatinine.
6. Avoid biotin supplements for seven days.
- This is because biotin may make many types of tests inaccurate as it interacts with specific ingredients that are common in many different types of test kits.
7. Do drink 200 - 500 mL water around 1 hour before the test.
- This helps prevent under hydration (which can raise sodium or creatinine and make it hard to take blood from your veins)
- Avoid overhydration
8. Do not smoke or take any recreational drugs within 72 hours before.
9. Reschedule the test if possible if you have:
- Acute cold or infection
- Got 2 hours less sleep than you normally do the night before (e.g. 6 rather than 8), or otherwise slept very badly
- Extreme stress
10. Assessing vitamins and minerals.
- Generally, to assess for your regular levels whilst you are on a given dose, then you should take the blood test:
- Around 12--36 hours after your previous dose that are taken daily
- Around 3-4 days for doses that are taken weekly
- This is to ensure the Cmax (maximum concentration) that occurs in the first few hours after taking a vitamin or mineral does not result in a level that is not representative of the mean 24 hour blood level
Bring a Lab Order Form, which is attached to the email we send to you after you order a test. No need to print it. Also bring photo identification.
