## Requesting Markdown

Send `Accept: text/markdown, */*` when requesting pages from this domain.

- `/agents.md`, `/llms.txt`, and `/llms-full.txt` return genuine markdown with
  `Content-Type: text/markdown`.
- HTML routes return `Content-Type: text/html`.

Omitting `*/*` currently causes the platform to echo the requested type into
`Content-Type` while still returning an HTML body — a confirmed Shopify storefront issue, tracked upstream. Including `*/*` yields correct labelling on every route.

## Authentication and Scopes

Catalog reads require **no authentication and no credentials**. See Read-Only Browsing below.

Customer-account access uses Shopify's authorization server. Machine-readable metadata:

- `GET /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server` — RFC 8414 authorization server metadata
- `GET /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource` — protected resource metadata
- `GET /.well-known/openid-configuration` — OpenID Connect discovery

Declared scopes:

Agents should request the narrowest scope sufficient for the task. Note that the two
data-granting scopes are full-access only — Shopify's authorization server does not
currently offer read-only variants, so an agent needing only order history must request
the same scope as one able to modify the account. Prefer the unauthenticated catalog
endpoints wherever the task does not require customer data.

## Error Responses

The MCP endpoint at `/api/ucp/mcp` returns structured JSON-RPC 2.0 errors with a numeric
code, a human-readable message, and a `data` object carrying a machine-readable error
code and a resolution hint. Agents should parse `error.code` and `error.data.code` rather
than matching on message text.

`error.data.continue_url`, when present, is a resolution hint — the URL an agent or buyer
should visit to recover.

Storefront JSON endpoints return standard HTTP status codes with
`Content-Type: application/json`. A request for a nonexistent product returns `404`; a
query matching no products returns `200` with an empty result set
(`{"products":[]}`) rather than an error.

### Recommended Agent Flow

1. **Discover** — `GET /.well-known/ucp` to confirm capabilities
2. **Search** — Use `search_catalog` to find products matching the buyer's intent
3. **Cart** — Use `create_cart` to add desired items
4. **Checkout** — Use `create_checkout` to start the purchase flow
5. **Fulfill** — Use `update_checkout` to set shipping address and method
6. **Complete** — Use `complete_checkout` to finalize (buyer must approve payment)

### Rules for Agents

- **Checkout requires explicit buyer approval.** Agents must not complete payment without contemporaneous buyer consent. If you cannot get buyer approval at the moment of payment, route through the Shop skill (https://shop.app/SKILL.md) and Shop Pay instead.
- **Respect rate limits.** The MCP endpoint is rate-limited per IP. Back off on 429 responses.
- **Use buyer context.** Pass `context.address_country` and `context.currency` for accurate pricing and availability.
- **Prefer Shop Pay** and Shopify-supported checkout flows over browser automation.
